Marketing + Yoga Collaborator, Laura Harvey

Yoga + Marketing Collaborator, Laura Harvey was introduced to yoga through the grapevine. Growing up, yoga was always something that interested her, although she did not know where to get the proper guidance for it. Over 12 years ago, Laura took a Santa Rosa Junior College yoga physical education class that transformed her life and helped her recognize the benefit potential of yoga and meditation, due to the college class’s demand of her to increase the consistency and intensity of her yoga practice. When the class completed, Laura took more yoga classes and learned more about meditation for a few years, until the demands of college classes and life commitments took over. Laura stopped waking up at 6 am to take Bikram Yoga classes before school, lost her touch on how to properly meditate, and ended up stressed-out and out of her body. Finally, with the new year approaching in 2016, Laura decided to get back in touch with her dharma and signed up to take her teacher training at Yoga at the Village in Santa Rosa (taught by Elyse Briggs and Frances Rothenberg), which completely changed her life for the better, got her back in touch with how to properly meditate, and taught her more about yoga than she ever knew before. Today, Laura loves learning more about yoga, and enjoys keeping her concentration on strengthening and integrating her commitments to a daily meditation, pranayama, and yoga practice; a fruitarian diet; and a minimalist, eco-friendly, and vegan lifestyle.

Laura’s teaching style is alignment-based. She loves assisting her students with props, so that they can experience their asanas while maintaining proper form - no matter where they are physically or mentally when each class begins. This is because Laura’s experience is that props make it easier for students to put an effort towards proper form, and that proper form can help to make yoga more beneficial. Laura’s goal, with teaching, is to create a safe environment that helps students connect with both their body and their breath. With regular practice, Laura believes it is only a matter of time before connecting to the body and breath on the mat, creates the opportunity to connect to the body and breath off of the mat.
